About Asian New Yorkers: Count Me In 2010

Asian New Yorkers: Count Me In 2010 is a citywide pan-Asian Pacific American grassroots effort to mobilize the incredibly diverse and complex Asian Pacific American (APA) community around the 2010 Census. According to the 2006 American Community Survey, Asian Pacific Americans are by percentage the fastest growing group in New York City, nearly doubling every decade since 1970 and constituting nearly 12 percent of the population.  Of the nearly one million Asian Pacific Americans living in New York City’s five boroughs, 78 percent are foreign-born, 28 percent speak little or no English, and 53 percent are born into poverty.  Therefore, it is critical that the 2010 Census conduct an accurate count of the community.  Asian New Yorkers: Count Me In 2010 is organized by three reputable community-based organizations: Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), the Indochina Sino-American Community Center (ISAAC), and Chhaya Community Development Corporation (Chhaya).
